    Characteristics and Nature of Metal Fog in Molten Salts

    In this paper are reported the characteristics and nature of metal fog in molten cryolite-alumina mixtures on the basis of laboratory experiments and quantum chemistry studies.The metal fog is the finely divided metal particles in the molten salts, and it dissolves partly in the molten cryolite to form atomic clusters,such as(Al_nNa_m)~(x+) type.

    The assumption of the local equilibrium of hydrogen distribution in metals[1]was used in the model formerly developed[2]to describe the diffu- sion of hydrogen in metals.From the assumption a direct relationship between the hydrogen diffusivity and the hydrogen concentration in metals is estab- lished as D=D_o/{1+N_x(k/p)/[1+C(k/p)]} The comparison between the two results drawn from the assumption of equilibrium and the dynam- ics of hydrogen trapping[3]was also presented.The computation results well explained the scattering phenomenon existed in hydrogen diffusion data and suggested that the experimental conditions should be identical for the study of hydrogen permeation in metals.

    Effect of Solidification Interface Morphologies on Microstructures of a Ni-base Superalloy

    A cast Ni-base superalloy K5 was directionally solidified and various solidification in- terfaces including plane front,cellular, cellular-dendritic and dendritic were obtained in a wider range of G/R ratio by using improved high withdrawal device and liquid metal cooling experi- mental sets.The precipitation pattern of some prin- cipal phases of the alloy and correlation of the vari- ous interfaces with microstructure were studied sys- tematically.It was indicated that the morphology of solidification interface of superalloy K5 varied with G/R ratio and that the solidification interface morphologies have a considerable effect on the fea- tures of phases both precipitated during solidification and post-solidification.Plane front and cellular directional solidification of superalloy K5 lead to a substantial decrease of MC carbide and elimination of γ-γ'eutectic,but make needle-shape M_6C carbide precipitate easily during ageing treatment.The finer dendritic structures solidified under the condition of higher cooling rate have less dendritic segregation and ideal microstructure.

    The dislocation structure of specimens of a duplex stainless steel with precharged hydrogen has been investigated by transmission electron microscopy.The result showed the hydrogen acti- vated dislocation source on phase boundaries of ferrite/austenite and makes certain dislocations in austenite grains move.The dislocation appearances in each phase in specimens uncharged with hydrogen have been given for comparison.

    Microdeformation of ferritic and austenitic grains in a ferritic-austenitic duplex stainless steel have been observed in-situ by SEM with photoetch. The plastic deformation behaviour of austenitic grains are similar to ferritic grains for hydrogen uncharged specimens,it follows Mileiko's strain-equal model.But it will be changed when the specimens are hydrogen charged.

    Apparent Active Adsorption Force at a Solid-Liquid Interface with Active Adsorption

    The paper presents a new relationship between the three surface tensions on the solid-liquid-vapor interface, γ_(sl)-γ_(sv)+γ_(lv)cosθ=βin order to understand the wetting on the liquid-solid interface in the case of active adsorption.The authors suggest a new force“apparent active adsorption force”βto take part in the balance at the three interface lines of contact in the solid-liquid-vapor phases,its dimen- sion isβ=Σα_iRT(Γ_i~(sl)-Γ_i~(sv)+Γ_i~(lv)cosθ),and its direction is dependent on the sign of β,whenβis a positive, the direction is agree with surface tension of the sol- id-vapor interface γ and vice versa.

    Hydrogen Treatment of Cast Ti-6Al-4V Alloy

    This paper presents the results of an investiga- tion of the effect of hydrogen treatment on microstructures and tensile and low cycle fatigue properties of a Ti-6Al-4V cast alloy.The phase transformation and the refining mechanism of the cast microstructure during the process of hydrogen treatment were studied.It was found that after hydrogen treatment,the coarse Widmansttten structure of the as-cast Ti alloy was transformed into a very fine and equiaxed α+β microstructure without any GBα phase.The tensile strength and ductility and the low cycle fatigue life of the hydrogen treated specimens were significantly im- proved.

    The influence of alloying elements and cooling conditions after rolling on the microstructures and mechanical properties of a series of medium carbon Si-Mn-Mo-V high-strength precision-formed rebars were investigated.It is found that steel with combined addition of Mo and V appears to be the most promising one than those containing V and Nb or containing V alone under the same pro- cessing conditions.From CCT curve of the steel and the cooling curve of the bar determined by sim- ulating the cooling rate in mill practice,the reason why 40Si2MnMoV bar has excellent combination of strength and ductility is clarified.

    Hydrogen Trapping Phenomenon at Grain Boundaries in a 18Ni Maraging Steel

    An investigation of the phenomenon of hydrogen trapping at grain boundaries in 18 Ni maraging steel has been carried out by the thermal hydrogen evolution technique.Grain boundary on- ly acts as a trapping site of hydrogen at low temper- ature region,and the peak of its hydrogen evolution from it is observed at 405K with 3.00K/rain heat- ing rate and with specimen of 0.55mm thick.The trap activation energy of hydrogen escaped from grain boundary is estimated as 14.2kJ/mol. Hydrogen trapping at grain boundary is mainly as sociated with segregated hydrogen by impurities, and its behaviour is primarily the interaction be- tween hydrogen and the hydrostatic stress field of the grain boundary.

    Textural Characteristic of 70-30 Brass Rolled by Cross Shear Rolling in Single Direction

    70-30 brass is rolled with 90% reduction by cross shear rolling in single direction with speed ra- tio 1.39.The sheet is divided into five layers along rolling plane normal to measure macroscopic statis- tical unsymmetric textures in every layer are des- cribed and analysed by means of three dimensional orientation distribution function.The results indi- cate that the main textures in every layer of brass rolled by cross shear rolling in single direction are the same as the main textures of brass rolled by conventional rolling.But the intensities,peak posi- tions and scatters of every texture component in {110}<112>are different,namely,there is a macroscopic statistical unsymmetry.It is found that the textures in every layer of brass rolled by cross shear rolling in single direction can be considered as the textures of brass rolled by common rolling in single direction at identical shear forces,the macroscopic statistical unsymmetry depends on the shear forces which are exerted on the layer.

    Disaccommodation in Fe-Ni Based Amorphous Alloys

    The disaccommodation of magnetic per- meability,specific magnetization and linear magnetostriction of amorphous(Fe_xNi_(1-x))_(76)- Si_8B_(16)alloys were measured.It was found that the disaccommodation obtained at lower temperature is a monotonically decreasing function of Fe content, however,a peak is observed at higher temperature. The experimental results are discussed on the basis of magnetostrictive interaction and atomic directional ordering.

    Resistivity and Susceptibility of Y-Ba-Cu and Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu Oxides

    The resistivity and magnetic susceptibility of the quenched samples for the Y-Ba-Cu oxides were measured at room temperature.The measurement for the temperature dependence of the amorphous Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu oxides with different heat treatment temperature was made.The resistivity and the parameters C in the formula x=X_0+C/(T-0)of the quenched samples for Y-Ba-Cu oxides decreased with lowering quench temperature,and their susceptibility did not vary monotonously with quench temperature.The tem- perature dependence of the amorphous Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu oxides gradually deviates from Curie-Weiss law with increasing heat treatment temperature.The local magnetic moments for Y-Ba-Cu and amorphous Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu oxides gradually decrease with decreasing quench tempera- ture or increasing heat treatment temperature.
