    Growth of Superconducting Whiskers

    The(1112)and(2212)amorphous strips of Bi(Pb)-Sr-Ca-Cu oxide were prepared by non-equilibrium solidification of melt-quenching method.A lot of superconducting whiskers have been grown up on the strip at 840-860°C in a stream of oxygen for 50-150 h,which are usually several to 10 odd mm in length,several μm in thick- ness and more than 10μm in width.These whiskers have very excellent flexibility.

    Cahn's theory of nucleation on dislocations has been analyzed thoroughly and the imperfection of the theory in some cases has been discussed.A revised theory has been proposed with application to the problem of precipitation of M(CN)phase in austenite.

    Quantitative analysis of populations having a geometric structure,which has developed into a special scientific subject called microstructology or stereology,is of great importance to the characterization and evaluation of microstructures and their evolution in various processes.This paper, besides a brief discussion on those topics such as the recent developments of computer assisted image analysis,mathematical morphology,and fractal analysis,will mainly focus on the scope,fundamen- tals,present status,and perspectives of classical stereology.Several case examples of its application to materials science will also be given.

    Variation in Creep Rupture of γ′ Strengthened Superalloys with Stacking Fault Energy of Matrices

    The correlation between the creep rupture behaviour and the stacking fault energy of matrices of γ′strengthened superalloys has been studied dur- ing constant load creep.At high temperature and intermediate stress,the creep rupture time and strain strongly depend on the stacking fault energy of matrices rather than the creep friction stress,but at higher stress,the role of grain boundary carbides becomes more obvious. However,in the considerably extensive stress range investigated here,the mean creep rate is a power function of the stacking fault energy of matrices and the power index decreases with in- creasing initial applied stress.Particularly,at inter- mediate stresses the product of this index and the initial applied stress compensated by the shear modulus is same for two series of superalloys. Hence,this product may be a criterion predicting that the matrix deformation controls high tempera- ture creep rupture.

    Influence of Rolling Reductions on Recrystallization Texture in Commercially Pure Al

    The recrystallization texture in commercially pure Al is investigated after the samples are rolled differently and annealed.The samples with low rol- ling reductions could be generally recovered or recrystallized in situ and characterized by the re- tained G{110}<001>component.This recovery process decreases during annealing with the increase of reduction.The appearance of the B/R{359}. <132>and R{123}<634>components de- pending on the rolling reduction is investigated and the less developed Cube{100}<001>component in commercially pure ahninium is also discussed.

    A large number of δ particles precipitated at low-angle grain boundaries have been observed by TEM in a dilute A1-Li-Zn-Zr alloy during ageing at the suitable temperatures.An explanation for this phenomenon was proposed,which involves the role of excess vacancies and capillarity effects.

    In this paper were studied the microstructure and properties of the non-barrier coating compo- sites fabricated by a new technology.The bonding between C and A1 in the composites is quite well, and the composites have excellent properties.The ion probe and X-ray analyses indicate that there is Al_4C_3 phase in the composites and its amount in the composites increases when the composites are exposed.In the case of exposure the strength of the composites is reduced because of increasing amount of Al_4C_3.

    The microstructures of melt-spun Nd_135- Fe_81.74B4.76 ribbons have been investigated by means of X-ray diffraction,Mossbauer spectroscopy and HREM.Experimental results show that optimal magnetic properties of the bond- ed magnet can be obtained by melt-spun alloys at wheel velocity of 24m/s,the microstructure of which was single phase Nd_2Fe_(14)B crystallites,and no other phases,such as Nd-rich,B-rich or x-Fe phase,were present.It is considered that the high intrinsic coercivity ~iH_c can be attributed to the sin- gle-domain behaviour of Nd_2Fe_(14)B crystallite phase.

    In this paper,the activation energy for precipi- tate dissolution in binary AI-Li alloy has been in- vestigated by considering precipitate dissolution in Al-Li alloy,continuously heated as a thermally ac- tivated process.The proposed calculation was car- ried out by changing the scanning rate in DSC measurement.The results show that the formation of GP zone is easy because the activation energy for its dissolution is smaller than that for Li atom diffu- sion in the matrix.The δ′dissolution consists of two steps:the first step needs larger thermal activation to break down the superlattice structure,and the second is much easier like GP zone dissolution.The phase is the most stable,which needs much larger thermal activation to disappear.

    A kinematically admissible velocity field which is different from Avitzur's has been proposed for axial symmetrical rod drawing and extrusion.An upper-bound analytical solution in cylindrical coordinates has been obtained without any mathematical simplification in this paper.
