    The behaviour of oxidation at elevated tem- peratures and fretting in the laser-alloyed layer of Ti-6Al-4V with the addition of Pr was studied. The results show that the addition of Pr changes the structure of oxide scale of Ti-6Al-4V,controls the short-range diffusion of oxygen to the scale/substrate interface and increases the adhe- sion and ductility of the scale,thus changing the oxidation kinetics and considerably reducing oxidation rate.The analysis of fretting test shows that the existence of high hardness layer in the al- loyed zone,fine dendrites perpendicular to the sur- face of the high hardness layer and the oxide scale produced during fretting at elevated temperatures are all beneficial to the improvement of wear resist- ance.

    An alumina coating was developed on mild carbon steel by plasma spraying and then modified by laser remelting.Some characteristics of plasma sprayed ceramic coating before and after laser remelting,such as microstructure,wear resistance, heat shock resistance,hot corrosion property and bond strength,have been investigated in this paper.

    The laser-cladding technique for welding of bridge wires is reported for the first time.The essen- tial feature of this technique different from the cur- rent methods is the realization of mutual melting of workpieces.Thus the stability of products is im- proved in an order of magnitude.The main points of the technique and the microanalyses of the weld- ing spot and other features are given.The technique presented is a novel method of welding between tiny piece and workpiece of different sizes and proper- ties.

    Silicon was added to the surface of 304 stain- less steel by laser melting the sprayed preplaced Si powders.The optical microscopy,X-ray diffraction and EPMA were employed to investigate the microstructure and chemical composition of the laser surface alloyed layer.The hardness of the al- loyed layer was measured by microhardness test and wear resistance was evaluated by scratch test. Corrosion resistance of laser alloyed sample was studied in 1N H_2SO_4+0.1N NaCl and 0.5N HCl+0.5N NaCl aqueous solutions.A microcrystalline intermetallic compound coating with smooth surface and good chemical homogeneity without porosity and crack is ob- tained.The hardness is about 720 HV.The wear re- sistance is 2 times better than that of the substrate. The corrosion resistance of the laser alloyed sample is much better than that of 304 stainless steel sample.

    A new method has been studied to obtain TiN-Ti(C,N)composite film by laser-induced re- action in order to modify the surface properties of substrate.An apparatus for this new technology has been developed.The main reaction,the influence of main processing parameters on the formation, composition,microstructure and properties of the film have been researched.The average hardness of the film is up to HK 2700-2800.The wear resist- ance of the film is higher than that of the substrate by a factor of 9-11;and the film has good adhesive strength with the substrate.

    Possibility to dope Y_2O_3 particles into the sur- face of superalloy sample by means of laser irradiation and the relationship between homogeneity and laser irradiation parameters have been investigated.The results show that homoge- neous distribution of Y_2O_3 particles in melt-doped region can be obtained on a macro scale and the content of Y_2O_3 in the region can reach 2 wt-% when precoating powder quantity is 0.05g/cm~2, laser power density is selected as 1.76× 10~4W/cm~2 and scanning speed 0.36m/min.

    The cyclic oxidation resistance of cast Ni-base superalloy K38G and its sputtered micro-grained film were studied between 950℃ and room temper- ature in air.The results show that the weight gain of micrograined films is much less than that of cast al- loy during cyclic oxidation,and the resistance of micro-grained fihns is even better than that of the aluminide coating on the same alloy.On the surface of cast alloy K38G,complex oxide scales of Cr_2O_3, TiO_2 and NiCr_2O_4 spinel formed and they began to spall alter about 30 cycles of test.However,on the micro-grained films,continuous and thin α-Al_2O_2 scale was formed and did not spall throughout the cyclic oxidation test.

    By laser heated pedestal growth method, Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_(8+δ) as-grown fibers with different morphologies were solidified in non-equilibrium condition at the rates of 0.1~14mm/min.At low rates,a(Sr_(1-x)Ca_x)CuO_2 phase with long and straight strips in shape and a white Cu-rich phase having a morphology of globular shape were found. With the increase of solidification rates,the phase (Sr_(1-x)Ca_x)CuO_2 becomes thinner and the Cu-rich phase becomes smaller and dispersive.When the solidification rates were last.another unstable phase(Sr_(1-x)Ca_x)Cu_2O_3 occurred.In fact,the tran- sition of the semiconductive as-grown fiber to the superconductor is a peritectoid reaction influenced by the annealing temperature and time.

    A study has been made of the fatigue crack growth in an Al-Li alloy 2091 in 3.5%NaCl solu- tion and at an elevated temperature of 130℃.The aging and environmental effects on the crack growth behaviour were examined.It is shown that the fatigue crack growth resistance decreases with aging.The specimen with underaged structures shows the highest resistance to fatigue crack growth due to more deflected crack paths and the resulting high crack closure levels.As compared to laborato- ry air,both 3.5% NaCl solution and elevated tem- perature of 130℃ cause an increase of near-thresh- old crack growth rates and a decrease of threshold levels.The elevated temperature is more effective. The effect of elevated temperature is mainly due to the precipitate coarsening which results in an enhancement of slip irreversibility.Hydrogen embritttlement is supposed to be responsible for the degradation of fatigue crack growth resistance in 3.5%NaCl solution

    A modified WLR method for bcc to monoclinic transformations has been developed. With the aid of computer,the habit planes,the magnitude of the lattice invariant shear,rotation matrix and the total transformation matrix have been calculated for five alloys being in good agree- ment with the observations.

    Low Ductility at Elevated Temperatures of the Cryogenic and Non-magnetic Steel Fe-23Mn-4Al-SCr-0.3C

    The origin of low ductility at elevated tempera- ture in the cryogenic and non-magnetic steel Fe-23Mn-4Al-5Cr-0.3C was investigated by means of impact test at elevated temperatures,opti- cal microscope,SEM and TEM.The experimental results indicate that the impact toughness lowers with increasing testing temperature,and exhibits a low trough of ductility from 865℃ to 1050℃ and a peak value at 1150℃.The intergranular fracture occurs in the temperature region of low ductility and the transgranular ductile rupture below this re- gion principally.There is a process of precipitating, gathering,growing,and dissolution of carbide (FeMnCr)_(23)C_6 and AlN between 500℃ and 1000℃.The coalescence of microvoids caused by the process at grain boundaries results in the intergranular fracture and the low ductility at ele- vated temperatures.
